Barceló Resorts Maya Beach is an ideal Oasis for Families
This complex of Mayan -inspired architecture is located in one of the most beautiful beaches of the Mexican Caribbean that stretches over 1.4 miles of white sand, coral reef and crystal clear waters. Beautiful paths and trails around the resort are excellent for running and taking long walks. Barceló is just 46 miles south of Cancun International Airport, 12 miles south of Playa del Carmen and 21 miles north of the archaeological site of Tulum parks and natural reserves.
I travel Mexico quite a bit. But have not experienced this type of trip before in the Riviera Maya. Where do I start? I was overwhelmed by the overall size and sheer grandness of the Barceló Resorts. If you book, you must get on the phone and discuss all the options they have available because there are many. We stayed beachfront in the premium Caribe pictured below. Although my personal taste was more suited for their property next door, which was called the Colonial. It had an authentic Mayan feel and was a bit quieter. The lobby and rooms of the Colonial had Mexican décor and the vibe and look wasn’t as modern as where we stayed, which was the Caribe property.
The Barceló Resorts are very equipped for families with all aged kids! If you kids 13 and over, they have swim up suites where you can hang all day in your own splash pool connected to the patio of your room. My teens totally dug exercising their independence and pretty much got along on their own – eating, playing games, or going to the beach or surfing in the surf-simulator pool ($20 per day pass). They have a Teens Night Club, family bowling, fun live entertainment in their outdoor theatre, mini golf and an outdoor shopping mall. This tropical resort also has 14 bars and 16 restaurants. You can walk the properties or get a ride on the golf carts. Our favorite part of the stay was the fact that Barceló has a strong commitment with the environment, which is a natural escape surrounded by tropical vegetation and over a mile of palm trees on white sand beaches in the majestic Mexican Caribbean Sea. You won’t find any umbrellas on this beach — it’s the billowing palms that keep you cool and covered.
When you stay at Barceló Maya Beach Resort you have access to the facilities of Beach, Caribe Hotel, Colonial Hotel and Tropical Hotels. Day and night time entertainment Program for all ages. – Lounge chairs and hammocks around the pools. Use of pool towels. Barcy kid´s Club. 2 Tennis courts, 2 Paddle courts, 1 multi-functional court, 1 basketball court, 1 soccer field (equipment provided at no extra cost), gym, mini golf, water aerobics in the pool, beach volleyball, water polo, darts, table tennis and badminton. 9 & 18-hole golf courses are available close to the resort in Puerto Aventuras and Playa del Carmen. It’s good to know that all water sports available on site in front of property- such as sailing, windsurfing, sunfish sailing, snorkelling, kayaking, catamaran, aquatic bikes, and diving lessons.
When dining we choose to do the ‘A la carte’ restaurants. That’s what they refer to as “theme” foods. We ate at Kyoto Japanese and at Mexico Lindo – the dining choices were good. We did the buffet a few times and it was not our style. We when travel we prefer gourmet food in small meal sizes and the themed restaurant offer that plus the chefs here are highly skilled and know their craft.
The Barceló Maya Beach Resort complex comprises of 2004 rooms, which are distributed throughout four hotels Barceló Maya Beach, Maya Caribe, Maya Colonial and Maya Tropical. I see this place as an enchanting and very active place for families or groups. It had a slight Vegas feel to it at times, so if you’re a Vegas fan, you’ll completely flip over the moon. So much to do here, make your stay a long one! You can enjoy the benefits of a 24-hours all inclusive, which you’ll find very convenient if you have older kids! If you want a completely active, no down time type of vacation, this is your place. If you have teens they’ll really love it here – it’s made for them!
