Transcript from driving home with my five-year-old son

Son: Mommy don’t  tell anyone, but I have to marry Julia.

Mom: Really? That’s great.

Son: How do I get a ring for her?

Mom: You need to wait until you’re grown and then you can get a ring.

Son: Can you tell Julia I want to be her to be my wife?

Mom: I can, but you should really tell her yourself.

Son: I want to be her husband.

Mom: Oh, I love that. [almost tearing up] Why do you love her so much honey?

Son: She’s so nice. And very cute.

Mom: She is!

Son: Please turn off this music.

Mom: Why?

Son: It reminds me of Julia.

Mom: [speechless]

Son: Can boys marry boys?

Mom: Yes, they can.

Son: I want to marry Julia.

Mom: I know.

Son: Will you be moving soon? I want us to live in your house.

Mon: I don’t know, maybe I’ll move someday.

Son: Hurry write it on a sticky note, “Julia, I want to be your husband.” I’m worried that someone might marry her before me!

So I got a Post-it pad and transcribed his note. Who knows how many little girls he’ll fall in love with. So just to be safe, I’ll be sure to keep a large box of colorful Post-its around for the years to come!
