#OnlyInWhistler… A remarkable vacation is never what you’d expect. Because if you expected it, it wouldn’t be remarkable.
“Just bring a sense of adventure and wonder.” -GD Maxwell, Whistler’s favourite writer –
Being an avid skier I typically only travel to Canada for their world-renowned skiing. We decided to give it a visit after reading and hearing about the fun Summer activities the mountain has to offer. My kids adore nature so most of our trips are out in the great outdoors. The boys were geeked-out when I told them they’d be hiking up their favorite ski run this Summer. Taking the gondola up with no snow beneath us was a bit odd, we do miss our snow all year round for sure. The one-of-a-kind gondola linking Whistler and Blackcomb mountains was so cool, we rode in a glass-bottomed gondola and saw the mountain beneath — Peak 2 Peak is the longest continuous lift system in the world, a mile above the glacial Fitzsimmons Creek. It’s a full day experience with incredible views, hiking trails to explore and places to eat on the mountains so be generous with time and take it all in.
In case you don’t know where this glorious mountain resort is — this paradise is located 2 hours north of Vancouver where you can laze on a different beach every day, explore miles of hiking and biking trails, play four golf courses and walk to a new restaurant each night. With endless potential for escape and adventure, you’ll need more than a weekend to take it all in. There is so much to do in Whistler, it’s hard to know where to begin. That’s why we’ve taken tips from some of the world’s leading tastemakers, savviest locals and resort guests, to compile a selection of itineraries that cut to the chase. LAY BACK AT WHISTLER CREEKSIDE LODGE
Summer in Whistler is something special, the days grow longer, the crowds get smaller and the recreational opportunities abound! The kids and I stayed at Lodging Ovations where it’s less crowded than Whistler Village, we enjoyed our suite and the laid back vibe of Whistler Creekside – Whistler Creekside is a resort within a resort, combining all of the conveniences of the main village in a more relaxed atmosphere. Creekside offers retail stores, grocery store, liquor store, restaurants, sunny patios, and Whistler’s original watering hole, Dusty’s! Only a 5-minute drive south of Whistler Village and conveniently located on the paved Valley Trail, linking Creekside to Whistler Village and beyond, Creekside is perfectly situated to take advantage of all that summer in Whistler has to offer. A short walk is all it takes to get to three of the best lakes and parks in Whistler. Two local favorites, Wayside and Lakeside Parks on Alta Lake, both have canoe, kayak and paddle board rentals for the whole family to enjoy. Whether you’re staying at Legends, Evolution or First Tracks Lodge, Whistler Creekside is the natural choice for your Whistler vacation. Kids will dig the playground with an amazing tree fort, a beach volleyball court, two tennis courts, and a basketball hoop! Check out Lodging Ovations and plan your trip now! Your kids will love it!

Fall Head Over Heals for Nita Lake Lodge – Old World Charm!
I like Nita Lake Lodge because it’s a bit removed from the crowds. It’s warm wood décor and cozy lodge vibe reminds me of why I love skiing so much. Located just 500 metres from the Whistler Creekside gondola on the valley trail, the Nita Lake Lodge offers the best of tranquil surroundings with proximity to activities in all seasons. http://www.nitalakelodge.com/nita-lake-lodge/

Don’t forget your passport. The Canadian /USA boarder station at Peace Arch on the way to Whistler had undergone big improvements during the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. This has improved traffic flow and processing time. It now only takes approximately 3 hrs by car from the border to Whistler.
